It has been my experience that over the counter night guards are not a good alternative to a night guard made at a dental office. An in office constructed night guard will afford a superior fit, be more comfortable and the bite will be adjusted optimally for maximum contact with the opposing teeth. This is not the case with an over the counter night guard. Over the counter night guards can cause damage to the TMJ.
