Laboratory Constructed Night Guard
Over the counter night guards are not a substitute for a laboratory constructed night guard. As you can see from the video a well constructed night guard will have a superior fit and therefore it will be more comfortable. Over the counter night guards only contact a few opposing teeth whereas a lab night guard is adjusted to contact all of the opposing teeth. Over the counter night guards can cause TMJ problems because of an unbalanced bite.
